| Adaptation:
Areas of the warm season grasses with temperatures not below
5-10 degrees F. Extended cold temps at the 5-10 range
can cause winter kill of this grass.
Centipede can be planted from seed, sod
or sprigs. - Note: SE Texas is also acceptable
area for growing centipede. |

Centipedegrass is probably the
lowest maintenance of the warm season grasses. Its popularity
stems from the tenacity to grow on poor, sandy soils to clay based
ones. Needing little fertilization and not needing to be mown as
much makes it a preferable for busy lifestyles. Responds well to
watering and is not particularly drought prone in times of long,
hot weather, but can return to growing if enough water is intermittently
provided.
In more colder climate areas the
TifBlair variety is a better choice as it has improved
cold tolerance.
Centipede Prefers
a low pH soil
in the range of 5.0 to 5.5. It is a warm season grass but
does good in the lower fringe areas of the transition zone.
Handles sandy and acidic soils well. One of the better lawn
grasses for low pH (High Acidic) soils. Grows slowly, but
once established forms a dense turf with little extraneous
care.
